GETTING TO SCOTLAND FOR THE G8

*** ALL TRAIN TICKETS MUST BE BOOKED BEFORE THE 13th JUNE***

By Train: Well, you could pay between 83 and more than 200 quid to go from Brighton to Edinburgh (check out The Train Line) - or between 54 and 90 quid from London to Edinburgh. You would be all on your own (though perhaps with some mates and randoms) and feeling rather short-changed by this First World Price Rail Service.

Or you could get a ticket for £50 quid return from the Cowley Club, the Peace Centre, or from the Sussex University Students Union (where tickets are available for £30 quid return for students) and be on a train full of people who also want to do something positive when the G-Hate arrive on these shores. These trains have been organised by the South East Regional Mobilising Network and the details are as follows:

London to Edinburgh (return).

Train 1: 1st July to 9th July,

Train 2: 4th July to 8th July,

Finalised times for departure and arrival are subject to network rail agreement but will be around 7am-ish from London Kings Cross, arriving Edinburgh at 1pm-ish. All tickets are return but for those wanting a one-way ticket there will be an option to sell/donate your return journey at the convergence & camp sites. If you are not able to come to pick up a ticket, then please go to the South East Assemblies Train Booking Form and sort it out from there.

Get your ticket now!

Cycling: Yes, really. The G8 Bike Ride will be enjoying a ride up to Scotland for a quick game of Golf at Gleneagles. Their website is at G8CycleRide Website and they have a busy schedule of preparatory meetings, parties and other things before they set off! Go on, do it ecologically! Be the envy of those who can't!

Car: Usually not such as good idea but Cambridge Action Network are helping sort out a car pooling (and bike pooling?!) forum so you can perhaps grab a lift for the price of the petrol or maybe less. Check out their Car Pooling page and their Transport Hub page.

MORE INFORMATION

In addition to Brighton Dissent's weekly meetings, we are also part of the wider Dissent Network, and the South East Regional Mobilising Network which groups in the South East coordinate through. The next South East Assembly takes place on Saturday 11th June, 2-6pm at University of London (Malet Street), WC1.

All of this coordination, and the planned convergence spaces require money. For this reason, an appeal has gone out to individuals and groups, and the website for this appeal can be found at the Ten Pounds Appeal Page.

BASIC TIMELINE FOR G8 2005 EVENTS

Sat 2nd July: 'Make Poverty History' march in Edinburgh with 'anti-capitalist presence' (Make Capitalism History).

Mon 4th July: Faslane Blockade with Trident Ploughshares.

The  Peoples Golfing Association, the Clandestine Insurrectionary Rebel Clown Army and Hill Walkers are also planning responses around the summit...keep an eye out for events in your area. Also events in solidarity with refugees as well as freedom of movement are planned.

A more up-to-date timeline is available from the Dissent! website

KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH DEVELOPMENTS

To get emails regarding the mobilisation, you can subscribe to http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/resistg82005 - for practical organising and networking information relating to resisting the G8, or http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/dissentedinburgh - for people based in Edinburgh.

You can also visit the G8 LibCom Forum to post questions, start arguments, whatever takes your fancy.

Finally, you might like to visit Indymedia UK who have all of the news the corporate media don't like to report upon and have a Dedicated G8 page.

FINALLY

Maybe some of you want to check out why we are SO against the G8. Well, we don't have a dedicated text about this, but can refer you to the University of Toronto G8 Information Centre which has all sorts of academic and hardcore stuff to delve into. Corporate Watch have perhaps the best, and most up-to-date info on the links between the G8 2005 and corporations. Alternatively, you might want to check out the Workers Solidarity Movement text on the G8 or the World Development Movement page which has some other info about the G8. Basically there is every reason to protest against the G8 if you believe that the world is getting screwed over by big business, militarism, racism and other forms of destructive behaviour forced on us by a very few, un-representative, nasty people called 'leaders' of 'democracy'.

We also have some links to the left and right - email us if anything needs ammending, updating, whatever.

Thanks for visiting!
